Project summary
This groundbreaking project delivered Chile’s first fleet of electric heavy-duty trucks for Walmart Chile—ushering in a new era of clean, quiet, and efficient freight. Today, more than 50 electric trucks power deliveries across Santiago, serving a nationwide network of 400+ stores, 35% of them in the Metropolitan Region. Each truck carries up to 45 tons, proving that zero-emission freight can move goods at scale while slashing emissions and noise pollution—bringing cleaner air and quieter streets to the communities along its routes.
To enable this transition, the project developed a dedicated charging hub—one of the most advanced in the country—equipped with 20+ connectors and a total of 1,200 kW of installed charging power. This infrastructure provides reliable, large-scale energy capacity tailored to the needs of heavy-duty freight.
Importantly, Sotraser was not a Walmart supplier prior to this initiative. The collaboration introduced new routes, a new client, and new technology—representing a transformative shift for both companies. Together, Walmart Chile and Sotraser also designed a sustainable distribution strategy built on three pillars: specialized equipment, robust energy capacity, and clean energy integration.
The project directly supports Walmart Chile’s commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. By embracing electromobility at scale, Walmart and Sotraser have set a new benchmark for the retail and logistics industries, breaking long-held paradigms about the feasibility of electrification in freight transport. This partnership demonstrates how strategic innovation can accelerate corporate climate goals while reshaping entire industries.
