Austria, Canada, Chile, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden are calling on leading nations to jointly pursue a global Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) ahead of COP26 to accelerate the manufacturing and adoption of zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (ZE-MHDVs). The global agreement will aim to reach 100 percent ZE-MHDV sales between 2040 and 2050 because growing the ZE-MHDV sector is crucial to reaching collective Paris Agreement climate goals.

About the Speakers
Stientje van VeldhovenMinister for the Environment, Netherlands A diplomat and civil servant by occupation, Van Veldhoven studied policy and management in international organisations at the University of Groningen. She worked at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy and for the European Union in Brussels. She was elected Political Talent of the Year (2012/2013) by the Dutch national radio and television broadcaster, Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (NOS). She was elected to the House of Representatives from 17 June 2010 until her appointment as State Secretary for Infrastructure and Water Management. As a parliamentarian, she focused on matters of climate, energy, natural environment, agriculture, fishery, animal rights and development aid. In 2019, she was appointed minister without portfolio at the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. |
Francisco Javier LópezUndersecretary of Energy, Chile Francisco Javier López is a lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and LL.M. and Certificate in Business Administration from the Northwestern University School of Law. During the first government of President Sebastián Piñera, he served as legal adviser to the Undersecretariat of Public Health, and as head of the Cabinet of the Budget Directorate of the Ministry of Finance. In the current mandate of President Piñera, he was head of the Cabinet and coordinator of Health Policies of the Ministry of Public Works. Before assuming the new position in the Ministry of Energy, he was the regulatory and legislative coordinator of the Ministry of Economy. |
Cristiano FaçanhaGlobal Director, CALSTART As a transportation and environmental engineer with over 15 years of experience in the transportation industry, Cristiano’s mission is to reduce climate change and air pollution by cleaning the transportation sector. Cristiano currently leads CALSTART’s Commercial Vehicle Drive to Zero Program, which aims to accelerate the market of zero-emission trucks and buses worldwide. He is also an expert in the design, modeling, and evaluation of transportation emission reduction strategies and policies. Prior to CALSTART, Cristiano led clean transportation activities related to sustainable freight, Brazil and emission inventory tools at the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT). Cristiano holds a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, and a MS in Transportation Management from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, and a BS in Industrial Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. |
Angela HultbergClimate Champion for COP26 Angela Hultberg is the global Head of Sustainable Mobility at Ingka group (formerly IKEA Group). She is in lead of efforts related to the sustainable mobility agenda, reducing customer and co-worker travel emissions as well as achieving zero emission home deliveries and services. |
Aaron HoskinChief Advisor- Transportation and Alternative Fuels, Canada Dr. Aaron Hoskin is Senior Manager responsible for Federal, Provincial and International activities within the Transportation and Alternative Fuels Division at Natural Resources Canada. He has over 10 years of experience in alternative fuels use in transportation, including leading the Federal Greening Government Fleets program, developing new policies and programs for lower carbon fuels and transportation, leading work on a hydrogen strategy, contributing to both Natural Gas Use in the Canadian Transportation Sector Roadmaps, and leading Canada/U.S. collaboration on codes and standards for alternative fuel use in transportation. He has a Ph. D in chemistry, with a focus on catalytic activation of small molecules, including hydrogen, and methane. |
Dr. Gereon MeyerHead of Department European and International Business Development of VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik in Berlin, Germany Dr. Gereon Meyer is a German physicist, publicist and innovation policy consultant. He is specialized in enabling technologies for product innovation, and in the transformation of the automobile and the transport system. He is the Head of the Department European and International Business Development at VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH in Berlin. |
Knut Arild HareideMinister of Transport, Norway Knut Arild Hareide is a Norwegian politician for the Christian People’s Party who became Minister of State in the Solberg government in 2020, as Minister of Transport. He has been a parliamentary representative since 2009, first for Akershus, then for Hordaland. He was party leader in KrF from 2011 to 2019 and was minister in the Bondevik government from 2004 to 2005. |

He holds a graduate degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Stockholm School of Economics and has previously worked in the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO). De Toro has also held positions as the Political Secretary for the Swedish Social Democratic Party Parliamentary Secretariat and the Swedish Social Democratic Party in Stockholm County Council, as well as Political Advisor to the Ministry of Finance. |
Jared BlumenfeldSecretary for Environmental Protection, CalEPA Jared Blumenfeld was appointed California Secretary for Environmental Protection by Governor Gavin Newsom in January 2019. As Secretary, Jared oversees the state’s efforts to fight climate change, protect air and water quality, regulate pesticides and toxic substances, achieve the state’s recycling and waste reduction goals, and advance environmental justice. Jared is one of America’s most innovative environmental leaders, bringing to the agency more than 25 years of environmental policy and management experience at the local, national and international levels. From 2009 to 2016, he served under former President Barack Obama as Regional Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the Pacific Southwest, a region that includes California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii, the Pacific Islands and 148 tribal nations. Prior to government service, Jared led international campaigns for nongovernmental organizations. He served as Chairman of the U.N.’s World Environment Day in 2005, led the habitat protection program for the International Fund for Animal Welfare, and was Executive Director for the Natural Resource Defense Council’s Earth Summit Watch from 1993 to 1995. Jared is also a former chair of the Federal Regional Council, and a founder of Green Cities California and the Business Council on Climate Change (BC3). Jared graduated from Cambridge College of Arts and Technology, and earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of London and a Master of Laws from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall). |
Rachel MacleanParliamentary Under Secretary of State, UK Rachel Maclean was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport on 14 February 2020. She was elected Conservative MP for Redditch in 2017. Rachel was elected as Member of Parliament for Redditch at the 2017 General Election. She sat on the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee between September 2017 and June 2018. Rachel has served as a Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Home Office, Department for Work and Pensions and HM Treasury. Rachel joined HSBC in 1989, working in Australia, Japan and Hong Kong. In 2005 she set up a publishing company with her husband specialising in IT and software content. More recently Rachel co-founded a HR- software business which provides a platform for SMEs to use the latest technology tools to run their businesses more efficiently. Rachel founded ‘Skilled and Ready’, a charity working with schools to help young people develop skills that businesses look for in their employees. Rachel studied Experimental Psychology at St Hugh’s College, Oxford and obtained a master’s degree in Work and Occupational Psychology from Aston University. |
