Scania breaks new ground with coming long haul battery electric truck | 10.15.21

Drive to Zero pledge partner Scania recently announced on CALSTART’s Clean Commercial Transportation Update (CCTU) the company will enter production of a long haul, battery electric truck in 2023. This is the first major truck maker to make this specific commitment.

The truck will be capable of carrying loads up to 40 tons (80,000 lbs) at freeway speeds for four hours of travel. Recharging will take 45-60 minutes. It will use a new generation of batteries from the Sweden/northern Europe Northvolt production facility.

CALSTART is actively organizing efforts to launch zero-emission long haul in the US along key corridors by 2025 – Scania’s announcement builds the momentum for that effort.
